In 1927, Fritz Lang left Weimar Germany to go to Hollywood and direct the first ever sci-fi blockbuster: The Star Wars. Written by his wife, Thea von Harbou, with special effects by Eugen Schüfftan of the newly-founded Industrielle Licht und Wunder, the film went on to become the biggest hit of the 1920s.
